Energy efficient heating

using infrared panels

What is infrared heating:  The easiest way to describe infrared heating is that is similar to the heat generated by the sun.  Rather than heating the air around us it warms objects that it meets including people.

Is infrared heating cheap to run:  In a nutshell yes, the average 2kw domestic heater costs 68p* per hour to run – compare that to the cost of a comparable sized infrared panel that would cost less than 6.8p* per hour to run – that’s a massive saving especially when energy costs are rising?

Why is infrared cheaper to run:  There are a number of reasons for the cost saving, the maintenance, build cost of the panel, and the lower wattage required to run each panel.  In effect this means that you receive almost 100%  heat output for the electricity you use.

How does infrared heat:  When you use a radiator or a fan heater to heat a room you are heating the air – with infrared you are heating the structure of the room and the objects and people in it.  The panel uses electricity and converts it straight into heating up the element on the inside of the panel (carbon crystal) this then gives out Far Infrared Heat (FIR).

How does infrared compare to other forms of electric heating: Most domestic heaters warm up the cold air in the room and distribute it around the space.  This means that on a cold day the heater has to work hard and for longer to heat up the air – which then is lost through open doors or windows.  You may also have seen heaters that glow red; these are mid-infrared heaters which work at the visible end of the spectrum.  Compared to both of the options FAR infrared is far cheaper to run.

Are infrared panels expensive: FAR infrared is one of the most economic heating systems on the market today.  The panels convert 98.5% of the electricity you use into heat, far higher than the 50% that most other traditional methods of heating use.
